CONNECTICUT
INDIAN AFFAIRS COUNCIL (CIAC)
- Acts as the
Commissioner’s designee to the CIAC
- Organizes and staffs all
regular and special meetings
- Reviews correspondence
and coordinate replies
- Prepares DEP’s and other
state agencies’ comments, concerns and recommendations to
the CIAC
- Acts as the single point
of public contact for all Indian related issues
- Advises CIAC regarding
state policy and concerns
INSTITUTE FOR
AMERICAN INDIANS STUDIES
- American Indian
representative on the Board of Trustees
- Reviews the Institute’s
budget, policies and programs
- Participates in Committee
meetings
SPECIAL
ACTIVITIES AND PROGRAMS
- Advises commissioner and
agency on Indian affairs, tribal issues and policy
- Acts as contact with the
Office of the Attorney General involving Connecticut
tribes and reservation lands
- American Indian
representative for the Board of Education’s Service for
the Blind and advises board regarding vocational placement
of individuals
- Performs and coordinates
spiritual ceremonies for tribal members and their families
- Member of Connecticut
Indian Advisory Educational Council
- Meets with tribal leaders
and representatives regarding tribal concerns and requests
- Visits reservations and
tribal members
- Member of State Indian
Education Advisory Council
- Advises government on
Indian concerns on education
