Central Contractors Registration (CCR)
The CCR is the primary database for current, accurate, and complete vendor information. As of June 1, 1998, both current and potential Department of Defense (DoD) vendors are required to register in CCR in order to do business with the DoD if the contract solicitation occurred after May 31, 1998. Vendors are required to complete a one-time registration to provide basic information relevant to procurement and financial transactions. Vendors must update or renew their registration annually to maintain an active status.
CCR validates the vendor's information and electronically shares the secure and encrypted data with the Defense Finance and Accounting Service (DFAS) to facilitate paperless payments through electronic funds transfer (EFT). Additionally, CCR shares the data with several government procurement and electronic business systems.

Historically Underutilized Business Zone (HUBZone) Program
The HUBZone empowerment contracting program stimulates economic development and create jobs in urban and rural communities by providing federal contracting preferences to small businesses. These preferences go to small businesses that obtain HUBZone certification in part by employing staff who live in a HUBZone. The company must also maintain a "principal office" in one of these specially designated areas. A principal office can be different than a company headquarters. The program resulted from provisions continued in the Small Business Reauthorization Act of 1997.
